    Off and running!

At the seventh time of trying, the Pubcast’s team north of the border finally claimed their first league win of the season.

Peterhead defeated Alloa Athletic by a goal to nil at Balmoor, thanks to Stuart Anderson’s late strike.

It looked like the Blue Toon had blown their chance of victory when Conor Gethins missed a 33rd-minute penalty, picking up an injury in the process.

But Anderson’s goal, just four minutes from time, sealed Peterhead’s first league win of the campaign and moved them off the bottom of the Scottish Division Two table.

Check out manager Neale Cooper’s post-match thoughts in the video below. Video kindly provided by Blue Toon TV

We’ve adopted Real Madrid in the Champions League

Thanks to our former pubcast guest predictor Kay Murray, we’ve now adopted Real Madrid as our Champions League team for The Football Pubcast.

After we had Kay (pictured) on the show a few weeks back, she got back in touch recently to suggest we backed Los Blancos this season. We told her we needed reasons, so she went away, recorded this vid, and came back to us with loads of them!

So, after careful consideration last week (about 10 seconds!) we’ve decided to officially back Real Madrid in the Champions League this season and welcome Kay to the Pubcast team as our official Real Madrid correspondent to keep us right up to date with all the goings on at the Bernebeu.

We ran a liveblog during Real’s win with Ajax last week and we’ll look to do the same for future Real Madrid Champions League games, with us bringing you our (ahem) insight from our armchairs (or the pub) while Kay brings her actual real-life expert knowledge live and direct from the stadium itself.

You’ll be able to hear, and see, more of Kay’s updates right here on The Football Pubcast website during the season.

Jol admits Ajax “looked like boys” against Real Madrid

Talking to Real Madrid TV’s (and the Football Pubcast’s Real Madrid correspondent) Kay Murray, Martin Jol admits Real Madrid were just too good for Ajax on Matchday 1 of the Champions League.

As supporters of Real Madrid in the competition this season, we’re pleased to see Los Blancos win, but we do miss Martin Jol in English football. Top bloke.

Barkingside crash out of FA Vase

Early FA Vase kickoff at AFC Dunstable sees Barkingside go crashing out of the cup 6-2.

This FA Vase game exploded into action with four goals scored within six minutes from the kick off.

Barkingside started well and a perfect start saw Ryan Imbert score after two minutes to give Barkingside a early 1-0 lead.

They say the worst time to conceed a goal is after scoring and Barkingside proved that correct as after four minutes Richard Harker equalised for AFC Dunstable to make it 1-1.

Immediately after the restart Charlie Georgiou gave Barkingside a 2-1 lead after only five minutes.

Barkingside should have learnt their lesson but once again the defence were caught flat footed and AFC Dunstable equalised again when Bernard Christie scored to make it 2-2.

The game settled down but once again AFC Dunstable proved a handful for Barkingside’s defenders and they took the lead after 20 minutes when James Baldry slotted home passed keeper Luke Dodds.

In the second half Barkingside made a few substitute changes to the team and looked like they would be back in the game.

As the game progressed Barkingside found it difficult to breakdown AFC Dunstable’s defence and as they tried to equalise they had to cope with many AFC Dunstable’s counter-attacks.

Barkingside had a penalty claim turned away after 74 minutes when just as Charlie Georgiou went to strike the ball he was tackled from behind, but the referee waved away his claim for a penalty.

On 75 minutes Craig Butler scored for Dunstable to give them a two-goal advantage and Barkingside grew frustrated and many attacking chances were broken down and gradually the game slipped away from Barkingside’s grasp.

With only four minutes remaining AFC Dunstable broke through Barkingside’s defence and as the young striker dribbled around Luke Dodds in goal, Dodds dived at his legs attemting to save the shot but missed the ball completely and pulled the striker down to give away the penalty and earn himself a yellow card.

Hayden Wills stepped up and scored from the spot to make it 5-2.

On 87 Minutes with the card, and penalty, on his mind Luke Dodds made a easy save slip from his hands and Bernard Christie dribbled the ball into the net to make the final score 6-2.

With nine days before the next game Barkingside will need to forget this nightmare and unusual poor team performance and get back to winning ways.
