Barkingside crash out of FA Vase
Early FA Vase kickoff at AFC Dunstable sees Barkingside go crashing out of the cup 6-2.
This FA Vase game exploded into action with four goals scored within six minutes from the kick off.
Barkingside started well and a perfect start saw Ryan Imbert score after two minutes to give Barkingside a early 1-0 lead.
They say the worst time to conceed a goal is after scoring and Barkingside proved that correct as after four minutes Richard Harker equalised for AFC Dunstable to make it 1-1.
Immediately after the restart Charlie Georgiou gave Barkingside a 2-1 lead after only five minutes.
Barkingside should have learnt their lesson but once again the defence were caught flat footed and AFC Dunstable equalised again when Bernard Christie scored to make it 2-2.
The game settled down but once again AFC Dunstable proved a handful for Barkingside’s defenders and they took the lead after 20 minutes when James Baldry slotted home passed keeper Luke Dodds.
In the second half Barkingside made a few substitute changes to the team and looked like they would be back in the game.
As the game progressed Barkingside found it difficult to breakdown AFC Dunstable’s defence and as they tried to equalise they had to cope with many AFC Dunstable’s counter-attacks.
Barkingside had a penalty claim turned away after 74 minutes when just as Charlie Georgiou went to strike the ball he was tackled from behind, but the referee waved away his claim for a penalty.
On 75 minutes Craig Butler scored for Dunstable to give them a two-goal advantage and Barkingside grew frustrated and many attacking chances were broken down and gradually the game slipped away from Barkingside’s grasp.
With only four minutes remaining AFC Dunstable broke through Barkingside’s defence and as the young striker dribbled around Luke Dodds in goal, Dodds dived at his legs attemting to save the shot but missed the ball completely and pulled the striker down to give away the penalty and earn himself a yellow card.
Hayden Wills stepped up and scored from the spot to make it 5-2.
On 87 Minutes with the card, and penalty, on his mind Luke Dodds made a easy save slip from his hands and Bernard Christie dribbled the ball into the net to make the final score 6-2.
With nine days before the next game Barkingside will need to forget this nightmare and unusual poor team performance and get back to winning ways.
