The Stan Flashman Award for Brainless Sacking of the Year – Chris Hughton
Former Newcastle manager Chris Hughton took this award with a landslide win.
The manner of his dismissal from St James’s Park, despite taking the Toon Army back into the Premier League and up to 11th place in the table, has only served to make Mike Ashley even less popular with football fans. Hughton’s dignity following his sacking only made his dismissal all the more nonsensical.
Had Ashley then gone on to appoint a world-class replacement, it might have been considered a necessary action to get the top man they wanted. Perhaps. But they appointed Alan Pardew instead. Go figure.
