Tony and Johnny’s Road to Wembley

Throughout the season we’ll be following the antics of Tony 1 Leg and Johnny the Rhino as they set off on their own personal “Road to Wembley”. They’ll be blogging throughout their journey and you can read all about it right here with us on The Football Pubcast website.

So, here’s the plan… Me (Tony 1 Leg) & Johnny the Rhino are going to Wembley next year for the FA Cup Final and we’re not arsed who gets there!

Some of you may know us from the Droylsden FC blog we did last year and as much as we would like for it to happen, we just can’t see the Bloods getting to the cup final. We also think that Man City and Man United are far too big for their own boots and really don’t need our support getting to Wembley.

So we have decided to pick a game right at the start of the competition with two teams that are fairly local to Droylsden – we’ll decide who to support when we get there, it will probably be whoever has the best kit! We will then stick with this team throughout their cup campaign until they get knocked out, then whoever knocks them out we’ll jump ship and follow that team until they get knocked out and so on…

God knows where we’re going to end up in the country or who we’ll be following but either way we’ll get to Wembley and we’ll probably get really pissed along the way!

Saturday 20th August was Step 1 on the road to Wembley as Chadderton took on Cheadle Town in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup and the winners will be away to Trafford on Saturday 3rd September in the Preliminary Round proper.

It’s as good a place as any to start, none of us know anything about either side but we remember Trafford’s visit to Droylsden in last season’s Manchester Cup and they were simply awful! So we are talking Ian ‘Burkey’ Burke into coming with us for this one as he is the voice of non-league football on BBC Radio Manchester every Friday at 7pm. And no doubt he will have some dead clever stuff to tell us about both sides.

As well as piss-poor match reports, we will also be reporting on other things that people want to know about…. the quality of pies and Bovril at various grounds, fans reactions and songs they sing as well as the price and standard of beer! It should be eventful as well as emotional…

So make sure you check back with us on the Football Pubcast website, check us out on Facebook and follow us all the way to Wembley!
