Shut your haggis traps! It’s John Spencer!

As Jim mentioned on last week’s show (even with his well prepared notes floating away in the Canary Wharf dock) John Spencer has been busy since retiring from the beautiful game.

As well as head coach duties at Portland Timbers, the former Chelsea and QPR man has found time to star in an advert for Alaska Air.

It’s another great find from the excellent @90sPremStars and we loved it so much we thought we’d share it with you here on the Football Pubcast blog.

Enjoy and if you don’t like it you can all “shut your haggis traps…”

Paolo Di Canio – entertaining on and off the pitch

Most of our attention last week was focussed on the transfer window.

Unfortunately it turned into such a disappointment we wished we’d closed the curtains by Thursday morning.

Luckily Paulo Di Canio decided to inject some real drama into the world of football Proof that the man is as entertaining off the field as he was on it…

Grimsby Town manager Rob Scott fires back at fan after Darlington defeat

You support a team who’ve witnessed a titanic fall from the Championship to non-league football, your top scorer has just been sold to a League Two side, you’ve won once from your opening five games and now you’ve watched them lose at home for the second time already this season.

Time to have a pop at the manager?

One Grimsby Town fan thought so. Only Mariners manager Rob Scott wasn’t in any mood to take the flak without due retort. Cue this clip posted onto YouTube over the weekend.

Whoever’s side you’re on, and it seems a fair number of the fans in this incident are in the manager’s corner, what’s clear is that passion and tempers are running high. Hopefully the Grimsby players can show as much fight on the pitch as their manager has displayed off it…

Andre Santos: A bit tasty, but can he defend?

Arsenal look to have identified a real crowd-pleaser of a signing in the form of Fenerbahce and Brazil left back Andre Santos.

The following video shows a little of what he’s about – mostly fancy flicks, long shots and no little skill on the ball.

But as we all know, Arsenal have a soft centre and could really do with a strong defensive fullback (and a centre half, and another centre half, and another fullback, and a centre midfielder etc).

Take a peek at this vid. Santos looks like a very handy player, but only time will tell whether he’s what Arsenal need…

    A song for Arsene…

This video may have been released onto YouTube back at the start of the season, but it sounds even more relevant today.

It’s a reworking of Eminem’s “Stan”, featuring “Silent” Stan Kroenke writing a letter to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

It’s from Arsenal blog Gunnerblog.com, it’s pure brilliance, and we thought we’d share it with you here.

The Arsenal gaffer is under huge pressure after the Gooners’ 8-2 capitulation at the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford. Yes, Arsenal had a young side out at the weekend, but when you consider the average age of United’s team was younger than Arsenal’s, it just demonstrates the gulf between the two clubs with regard to the strength in depth of their respective squads.

Arsene clearly needs to buy, and he has just over a day to do it. The clock is ticking and the pressure is on. Transfer deadline day promises to be VERY interesting…
