Flashing her Pans – One Pubcaster’s Claim to Fame

Any of you who listened to our most recent Pubcast, show #73 will know that in the early exchanges of the show, Jim Staples fired a question at me: “Give me a fact about 1973/the number 73.” Having been caught off guard, I blurted out the first thing that came into my mind, “My mum was dancing on Top Of the Pops with Pans People in 1973.” Now not only was that nothing to do with football, it was slightly incorrect as it wasn’t until 1976 that my mum joined Pans People. Anyway, only the older generation will have a clue what I’m talking about but Pans People were a group of dancers that performed to different tracks on TOTP every week. So after a week of prodding, pushing and general bullying I’ve been forced to put up a clip of my lovely mother performing one of her dance routines on TOTP (I can’t believe I’m doing this)! For yours and the rest of the Pubcaster’s enjoyment I present Pans People…….

Melbourne Heart Make The Play-Off Finals

After securing a 1-1 draw against Adelaide United FC, Melbourne Heart booked their place in the A-League Play-Off finals in only their second season. It’s a fantastic achievement by the Heart who along their way beat the likes of the Central Coast Mariners and Brisbane Roar. The Heart take on Perth Glory in the Play-Off finals this Sunday and The Football Pubcast wish them the best of luck!! Here’s the highlights of the Adelaide game which secured Hearts place in the finals!

    The Handshake Snub Part 2!!

When will the madness end!! Twenty four hours after Saturday’s handshake debacle at Old Trafford there was a similar incident before the game at Villa Park. This one was perhaps even more shocking than the first…..

    Overhead Spinning Scorpion Kick……Why Not!!

What do you mean you’ve never heard of Erlan Mealla?! Yeah to be honest, neither had I until I saw this incredible clip! The unknown Bolivian first division footballer scored possibly one of the most unbelievable goals of all time. Some have described it as an overhead spinning scorpion kick. I just like to call it……FLAIR!!

    Don’t Mess with La Fascista!

I love Paolo Di Canio in the same way I love Jose Mourinho, because of his sometimes erratic, slightly sociopathic but always entertaining personality. After being sent to the stands (not for the first time this season) during Swindon’s 1-0 win over Macclesfield last Saturday, Di Canio had a few choice words for the officials in his post match interview. Personally I’d let him do what he wants!!

    Norwegian Electric Shock Football

There are some people that argue that the beautiful game is becoming too predictable, even boring! I for one completely disagree, however this is genius!!

Norway’s equivalent to Baddiel and Skinner took football to another level. They invited a number of Norwegian Premier League veterans to take part in a kick about with a difference. They attached electric shock collars (that are usually used to train dogs) to each of the player’s knees. It was ‘Baddiel’s’ job to randomly shock the white team and ‘Skinner’s’ job to shock the green team (and both had the ref’s controller).

Check out the video below to see the results. One of my favourite moments is about 3 minutes in when the white number 4 takes a few attempts to take a throw in (and fails)…enjoy!
