Latest football rumours: New Manchester City sponsorship deal

The level of interest that there is in the Premier League means that there are always lots of rumours surrounding the teams – with the most successful sides in particular attracting lots of speculation surrounding their activities. In the last couple of years Manchester City have become on of these sides, and there is a lot more interest in them than there was before, from the media, fans in other countries, and companies interested in sponsorship deals – with rumours suggesting that the online casino site JackpotCity may be interested in teaming up with the men from the Etihad.

The links between football and gambling have existed for a long time, as football players have long been enthusiastic participants in horse racing and poker, and football fans often enjoy sports betting. Now however, more supporters seem to be getting interested in online casino games, and the sites are reflecting this with games themed around football – particular slots games. The fact that football fans are proving to be an ever-more receptive audience for online casino coupled with the fact that both football and gambling are thriving forms of entertainment actually makes it surprising that there hasn’t been a closer link-up between the two until very recently.

However the rumoured sponsorship deal between Jackpot City and Manchester City could be set to change this, as it would represent a major move into this market. It could also be a lucrative area for Manchester City, as their would be the potential for spin-off casino games based around the club, alongside the money from the deal itself – at a time when they are heavily focused on increasing their income to comply with FIFA Fair Play rules. Even if this particular rumour proves to be unfounded, it would be a surprise if more such deals don’t happen with the top Premiership clubs soon

    Pubcast #106: Bog-Standard

The boys were back flush with excitement at the morning’s news that yet another Chelsea manager’s career had gone down the drain – that and quality of the toilets in our local boozer. With Mike in the chair downing whisky like an alcoholic, the topics of conversation flowed from overhead kicks to Underhill tackles, via the surreal image of Arsene Wenger being led upstairs on a leash. Other issues this week included:

    • Chelsea manager speculation – Abu Hamza to the Bridge?
    • Norwich are mustard
    • James Beattie scores for Stanley
    • Eddie Howe Bourne again
    • Bayo Akinfenwa banging in the goals

    Pubcast #105: Low Battery

The Pubcaster’s welcomed back an old friend and introduced a new one this week but, like the 1999 Champions League final, all the excitement didn’t happen until the last few minutes

Unlike the 1999 Champions League final; this was because of a low battery on the recording device but, aside from that, this was a stellar show. There was controversy, there was comedy and, more than anything, there was the absolute crap that you know and love. The topics covered include…

    • Billy Wright’s 50s WAG
    • Berbatov & Ruiz living in luxury in Fulham
    • Little Pea leaves Villa shell-shocked
    • Everybody loves Steve Evans…
    • Everybody loves Leeds United…
    • West Ham United: 2nd best team in London
    • Zaha for England
    • Sterling: 3 kids but too young for Walkabout
    • No mush-room in the top 9 for Montpellier
    • Exciting debate – Trivia vs Information
    • Franchise Scum vs. Wimbledon
    • Socceroos coach should be on his Behich
    • David Luiz in tears
    • Bloody Brazilians
    • Lads of the week
    • Bebeto’s baby in Under 20 Squad
    • Liverpool’s miniature forwards
    • Q&A with Stevie G
    • Edgar “F***ing” Davids
    • Sam Hamilton/Charly Bennet update
    • + all the usual nonsense

The FFDU Celtic v Barca Pubcast

    Pubcast #104: Hungover Rovers

The Pubcasters were in a slightly muted, and largely self-inflicted, mood this week as they discussed what Mike branded as “a quiet week in football”. But even with the odds stacked against them (hangovers, tiredness, no Stuart Hoare) they still managed to pull it out of the bag and deliver their normal mix of jolity, jokes and jibes. The topics under discussion included:

    • Arsenal bottling it at Old Trafford
    • A genuinely naughty “boy”
    • Mancini’s fury as City struggle in Europe
    • FA Cup Update – did Hastings make it through? Will it be AFC Wimbledon vs. MK Dons?
    • Is Falcao finished?
    • Stone Cold Charlie Austin’s “stunning” run of form
    • Crystal Palace top the Championship – Sean gets altitude sickness
    • Modest Cristiano plays down his Ballon D’or chances…
    • Did Mancini really say Balotelli wasn’t great?
    • Big Sam’s misplaced phone
    • The next Scotland manager
    • Melbourne Heart Update
    • And lots more…
