    Pubcast #119: Bale-ing Out

We tried. We really tried. We lasted four minutes, mainly talking about things other than football, before Dan Silver started talking about Gareth Bale. Despite Dan’s increasingly vocal man crush there was time for Mike, Jim, Andy and Jerome to get a word in edgeways and have a lively discussion that include the best blacked-up child featured on the show for at least a month. Aside from Mario Baby-telli and mercurial simian wingers, the Pubcasters argued about…

    • PFA Player of the Year shouts
    • Red Dwarf
    • Audley Harrison vs. Racist Bulgarians
    • Bobby Moore
    • Beckham vs. Barton

Skills to pay the (substantial) bills…

It’s nice to see that you’re old heros have still got it. A week or so ago, my old hero Dougie Freedman strapped his boots on again to star for Crystal Palace in a 10 minute cameo against Dulwich Hamlet. He hit the post and set up our third goal. Brought back some very happy memories.

At megarich Man City, they’ve got a couple of former heroes whose talent has clearly never left them. A few days back, we tweeted this goal scored by David Platt in a training session:

An absolute peach – and the look on Aguero’s face after is priceless. Ealier in the same session, Roberto Mancini showed us why he was once Italian footballer of the year with a nice little flicked volleyed pass.

However, it’s not just the old guard at Man City who can show off. Not to be outdone, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko team up for this little piece of showboating.

Brilliant stuff from the boys in blue. All of which also gives us an excuse to show this video from a few years back… Mark Hughes, we salute you.

The Platt over-head kick was amazing. The way he got straight back up and into the game was great as well.
