Skills to pay the (substantial) bills…

It’s nice to see that you’re old heros have still got it. A week or so ago, my old hero Dougie Freedman strapped his boots on again to star for Crystal Palace in a 10 minute cameo against Dulwich Hamlet. He hit the post and set up our third goal. Brought back some very happy memories.

At megarich Man City, they’ve got a couple of former heroes whose talent has clearly never left them. A few days back, we tweeted this goal scored by David Platt in a training session:

An absolute peach – and the look on Aguero’s face after is priceless. Ealier in the same session, Roberto Mancini showed us why he was once Italian footballer of the year with a nice little flicked volleyed pass.

However, it’s not just the old guard at Man City who can show off. Not to be outdone, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko team up for this little piece of showboating.

Brilliant stuff from the boys in blue. All of which also gives us an excuse to show this video from a few years back… Mark Hughes, we salute you.

The Platt over-head kick was amazing. The way he got straight back up and into the game was great as well.

    Pubcast #89: Succumbed again…

After a week’s enforced hiatus, the pubcasters braved the midday sun at Canary Wharf for a pint and a chat about football. This week we were joined by a pair of Johns as well as well as our good friend Aimee, who was discussing pairs of another kind…

Despite a distinct lack of actual football, plus a slight technical hitch with our high tech recording equipment (Jim’s phone overheating in the sun), we managed to pack plenty of footy chat into the show, including:

    • Jerome’s team GB performance review
    • Ronaldinho’s costly can of cola
    • Pompey in turmoil
    • Darlington update
    • Darren Fletcher’s future
    • Luka Modric going AWOL
    • Bale banned?
    • QPR’s cunning plan
    • Mirror Fantasy Football
    • Western Sydney Wanderers update (& Adelaide United’s phantom player)
    • Sean’s speech impediment
    • Naughty boys of the week, including Mario Balotelli’s new best mate
    • Michael Owen’s Twitter Q&A & 30p for a pee rant
    • Bangor City’s Les Davies up for European Player of the Year
    • Plus the usual insight and banter you know and tolerate
